Remember Murphy's Law! Before oxidizing, antiquing or otherwise applying any chemical to every piece of your best customer's 1,000-piece order, we strongly recommend that you test the chemical(s) on a small sample of the goods.
        • Oxidizing Tips
        • Always work in a well-ventilated area.
        • Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing.
        • Make sure your metal is clean, dry (and warm if using Win-Ox™).
        • Dip your piece directly into the oxidizer or apply with a brush.
        • Optional: after rinsing and drying the metal, buff gently to create antiqued crevices and shiny high points.
        • For safety and consistent results, antique your components before assembling, especially when creating items from mixed metals. Each metal reacts differently to each oxidizing solution, and some reactions involving multiple metals are hazardous or unpredictable.

Just a thought to try on Plated Silver

          By Cherianne on 4/21/2018

Hi! I haven't used any of these wonders, I have been reading a lot to figure out what I should buy and to do what with. Anyways, I keep seeing many posts about nothing sticking to the Plated Silver because of the lacqure in it. I came across a You Tube video on doing patinas, and the guy lightly sanded the item with a Fine Coursed Sand Paper. Just to give the patina something to stick to. Anything shiny or glossy should be prepped first or else your attempt will just slide off. I happen to remember the same thing with glossy paints. Just curious, but has anyone tried to do that so that the patina will have something to adhere to? And for tiny items, or ridged detail items, washing it in TSP. It can strip paint off of metal trim easily and my Dad used it to prep the walls in our house before painting because of the semi-gloss paint we used for easy cleaning maintenance.
          Excellent Product

By Debbie La Rue - Flower & Bud Handcrafted Jewelry on 5/11/2011

So easy to use and has so many uses. I want to use this on everything. The smell is not so bad either. I also really appreciate the instructions and cautions that Rings & Things put up on this product. Easy to understand and helpful. TY. Everyone must have this product, no really. Gel is so much better.
          I Love This Product!!!

          By Luann Udell on 2/14/2010

And actually, I think I'm one of the people who bugged R&T to carry it.... :^) It's incredibly easy to use: I don't have to be precise about measuring and timing. It works quickly. It doesn't smell too bad. I LOVE the long shelf life. I use it on all kinds of things: findings, chain, wire, beads, etc. The only things I'm having problems with are silver PLATED items. That may be because of a lacquer finish on those items, maybe? It might help to wash those items thoroughly first, which I'm always in too big a hurry to do. 8-( All in all, it is so easy and convenient to use, I can even do very small batches of items if I need to. I get consistently great results if I'm oxidizing six pairs of ear wires or a ton of stuff. Okay, not a ton, but a lot.
          Paint it Black

By Mollie Valente, R&T Design Team Member on 11/28/2009

I was asked to "product test" the new liver of sulfur gel. As a member of the R&T design team, I have had ample opportunities to use other oxidizing agents such as WinOx and traditional dry liver of sulfur. I am impressed with the new gel. It is super easy to mix (no more getting out the scale to measure dry clumps); and the patina it produced is dark and even. And another benefit is the new liver of sulfur gel doesn't have any shipping restrictions. This product will happily find a new home in my studio!
