Heishi Gemstone Beads
Heishi Gemstone Beads for jewelry making: Heishis are a type of disk bead that is usually flat, but sometimes slightly puffed. Traditionally, heishi necklaces were shell beads strung together, then rolled on an abrasive rock until the entire strand was a smooth cylinder of disk-shaped beads (sometimes with the addition of a fetish pendant, or a few accent beads in other materials). Today, the definition of heishi beads can include thin flat squares and puffed disks (aka flying saucers) made of gemstones, wood and other materials, as well as traditional disk-shaped heishi shell and coral. Sometimes we'll also tuck a few limited-stock gemstone "wheel" beads into this category of our website.
